DoorDash budget dayparting
DoorDash Budget Dayparting adjusts the daily budget of a Sponsored Products campaign every hour based on the day and hour schedule you configure. It helps allocate more budget to higher-priority delivery periods.
With Budget Dayparting, you can:
Set different daily budgets for different days of the week
Allocate budget across time slots by percentage
Allocate a fixed amount to each time slot
Restore the saved daily budget when the rule is disabled
1. Feature Availability
DoorDash Budget Dayparting is currently in limited rollout. If you cannot see this rule, contact your Customer Success Manager to confirm availability.
2. Supported Scope
Supported ad type: Sponsored Products
Rule association level: Campaign
Effective objects: Campaigns with a daily budget
Execution frequency: Starts at the top of every hour
Execution time zone: Uses the execution time zone selected in the template
Note: Budget Dayparting adjusts daily budgets only. The system skips a campaign if it has only a lifetime budget at execution time or if its daily budget is not writable.
3. Create a Budget Dayparting Rule
On the Automation Rules page:
1. Click Create Rule.
2. Select DoorDash and the advertiser.
3. Select Budget Dayparting.
4. Enter the template name.
5. Select the execution time zone.
6. Select an allocation method and complete the settings.
7. Save the template and link campaigns.
4. Two Allocation Methods
4.1 Percentage Allocation
Percentage allocation works well when the daily budget may change but the allocation ratio across time slots remains relatively stable.
Daily Budget: Set different daily budgets by multiplier or value.
Time-Slot Percentage: Assign a budget percentage to each time slot.
Daily Total: The percentages for all time slots in a day must add up to
100%.Precision: Supports up to two decimal places.
4.2 Fixed-Value Allocation
Fixed-value allocation works well when the budget structure is stable and you need direct control over the amount assigned to each time slot.
Daily Budget: Set the daily budget first.
Time-Slot Amount: Assign a specific budget amount to each time slot.
Per-Slot Limit: A single time-slot amount cannot exceed the daily budget.
Daily Total: The sum of all time-slot amounts must equal the daily budget.
Precision: Supports up to two decimal places.
5. Link Campaigns
After saving the template, select the campaigns to which Budget Dayparting should apply.
A campaign can be linked to only one DoorDash Budget Dayparting template.
Campaigns are not disabled during association based on their current budget type.
At execution time, the rule checks again whether the campaign has a writable daily budget.
After linking is complete, the rule is applied to the selected campaigns by default.
6. When the Rule Takes Effect
Budget Dayparting runs every hour and usually applies the latest settings from the next top-of-hour execution window.
For example, if you update the evening budget allocation at 15:10:
The system does not change budget allocations that ran before 15:00.
The new settings are recalculated and synchronized in later top-of-hour execution windows.
7. Saving and Restoring the Daily Budget
While the rule is running, it adjusts the current budget.
Xnurta saves the daily budget that existed before the rule was enabled and uses it as the restoration value.
While the rule is running, budget changes made in DoorDash Ads Manager do not update the saved restoration value.
When you disable the rule, unlink a campaign, or delete the template, Xnurta attempts to restore the saved daily budget.
Note: Restoration is best effort. If a platform API error prevents restoration, the unlink or delete action still completes. Contact your Customer Success Manager if the budget is not restored.
8. DoorDash-Specific Limitations
8.1 Daily Budget Only
Budget Dayparting does not run when a campaign has only a lifetime budget. If the campaign later has a writable daily budget, the system checks it again at the next execution.
8.2 Platform Budget Limits
The calculated value must be within the budget range that DoorDash currently permits. If a value is outside the platform limits, Xnurta uses the nearest writable boundary value. If the system cannot obtain a valid boundary or the daily budget is not writable, it skips the campaign.
8.3 Changes Made on Other Platforms
While the rule is running, daily budget changes made directly in DoorDash Ads Manager or on a third-party platform may be overwritten by Xnurta in a later execution cycle. Manage rule-controlled daily budgets in Xnurta whenever possible.
9. Recommendations
Use percentage allocation when intraday traffic varies but the daily total often changes.
Use fixed-value allocation when you need precise control over the amount assigned to each time slot.
When enabling the rule for the first time, start with a small number of campaigns and observe a complete daily cycle before expanding the scope.
To reduce both budget and competitiveness during less efficient periods, consider combining Budget Dayparting with Bid Dayparting.
10. FAQ
Q: Why is a linked campaign's budget not changing?
A: Confirm that the campaign currently has a writable daily budget. The system skips campaigns with only a lifetime budget, an unwritable daily budget, or a status that is not eligible for execution.
Q: Can I allocate a lifetime budget by hour?
A: No. This release of Budget Dayparting adjusts daily budgets only and does not modify lifetime budgets.
Q: Why can't I save percentage allocation?
A: Confirm that the percentages for all time slots in the day add up to 100%, and check that each field meets the displayed value range and precision requirements.
Q: Why can't I save fixed-value allocation?
A: Confirm that no time-slot amount exceeds the daily budget and that the sum of all time-slot amounts equals the daily budget.
Q: Does editing the rule reallocate budget for past time slots?
A: No. The new settings take effect from the next top-of-hour execution window and do not recalculate past time slots.
Q: Is the budget restored after I disable or delete the rule?
A: Xnurta attempts to restore the daily budget saved before the rule was enabled. Platform API errors may prevent restoration. Contact your Customer Success Manager if the budget is not restored.
Q: Why is the final budget different from the value calculated by the rule?
A: If the calculated value is outside DoorDash platform limits, Xnurta uses the nearest permitted boundary value as the final budget.
